In 2010 the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence launched a five year pilot project testing the Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF) approach. Cohort 1 was established with four domestic violence programs, and then expanded to include nine additional programs in 2011. The approach used survivor-driven mobile advocacy, flexible financial assistance, community engagement, and housing stability to get survivors of domestic violence into stable housing as quickly as possible and then providing the necessary support as they rebuild their lives.
