Don’t Ask, Just Tell: Sharing Birth Control Info with Survivors

Everyone should be able to make their own choices about their body.  Sometimes in abusive relationships, a partner will try to control or hinder decisions especially around reproductive health. For example, a partner using abusive control might hide or mess with birth control, pressure their partner to get pregnant, or stop them from seeing a doctor. This is a form of domestic violence known as reproductive or sexual coercion.

Survivors don’t always talk to advocates about this, and they shouldn’t have to. That’s why it is important for advocates to offer information to survivors about birth control, safety, and reproductive health. By sharing the resources, you open up the opportunity for awareness and choice to survivors.

It’s a simple way to support their health, safety, and choices.
