Whether in our homes or on the street, we believe that everyone should be safe.
We are horrified by the recent killing of Alex Pretti by Border Patrol officers in Minneapolis, just weeks after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer killed Renee Good.
These violent immigration enforcement efforts undermine community safety and have profound consequences for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes, who are less likely to seek help when communities are traumatized and under surveillance.
We are already hearing from victims who are too afraid to seek help from authorities due to this escalating violence.
We stand in solidarity with immigrant communities, with the families and loved ones of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and with advocates calling for accountability and an end to violent enforcement practices.
We stand with our national partners, the National Network to End Domestic Violence, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence, and others in urging Congress to act now by halting funding to ICE and Border Patrol until enforcement tactics are addressed and meaningful accountability is in place.
