Sexual Harassment and the Fair Housing Act

Sexual harassment in housing is illegal.

The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice has launched an initiative to address sexual harassment in housing by landlords, property managers, maintenance workers, and others who have control over housing. The Department of Justice can investigate and seek redress for sexual harassment in housing under the Fair Housing Act.

Posters, flyers, and palm cards explaining tenants’ rights and who to contact if you’ve experienced sexual harassment are available int 13 languages. Hard copies are also available: Contact the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division to request these.

The new initiative seeks to break down barriers to reporting sexual harassment in housing. Please feel free to share these resources and this video to help end sexual harassment in a place that should be a safe refuge.
