Survivor Safety & Civil Protection Orders
December 17 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Domestic Violence Protection Orders can be a valuable part of a survivor’s safety plan, but they aren’t the answer for everyone. Survivors need to know pros and cons of engaging with the civil legal system when considering a protection order.
We will review some of the important questions advocates need to ask and information that survivors need to know when figuring their safety risks.
We will talk about the expansion of the legal definition of domestic violence to include “coercive control” and talk about key elements of writing a strong protection order petition.
