Safer Communities Start With Us

Continuing the Refuse To Abuse® and Choose Respect legacy of prevention and community action.

This July, join the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault to support violence prevention across the state!

Every day, people across Washington are creating the conditions for safety, respect, belonging, and healthy relationships. Prevention happens in conversations, classrooms, workplaces, families, friend groups, and communities.

When we invest in prevention, we invest in a future where violence is less likely to happen in the first place– one where we all can live and love freely, without fear.

Join us from July 6–31 as we come together to raise $50,000 for violence prevention across Washington!

Create a team, invite your friends, and help us build safer communities together, because prevention starts with us!

Thank you to our generous sponsors for building safer communities with us.

Gold sponsors: Seattle Mariners; Muckleshoot Indian Tribe; UFCW 3000. Silver Sponsors: DuBois Levias Law Group; Foster Garvey; Frank Freed Subit & Thomas; Friendly Hmong Farms; Sound Injury Law

Q&A

What can I do to help?

There are lots of ways to take action!

  1. Fundraise. Create a fundraising team on our GiveButter page, set a fundraising goal, and invite your friends, co-workers, and neighbors! Tell the people in your life why safe communities and violence prevention matters to you.
  2. Donate. Visit our fundraising page to make a one-time or monthly donation. Your support makes a big difference in helping us create safer communities across the state.
  3. Share. Share the campaign on social media and tell the people in your life why it matters to you. You can also follow along with us on Instagram and Facebook.
  4. Learn how to help a friend. You can be a lifeline for someone in your life. Download our free Friends & Family Guide to learn more about how to support someone who might be experiencing violence in their relationship.

Will there be a Game Day or an in-person event this year?

This year we’re taking an intentional transition approach as we expand our prevention work to fully bring sexual assault prevention and domestic violence prevention together. Rather than producing a large in-person event, we’re focusing on a virtual campaign that allows us to maintain momentum while creating space to think more broadly about the future of prevention work and what this campaign can become. We are grateful for the thousands of Refuse To Abuse® supporters who have showed up for violence prevention over the years, and we are excited about what we can continue to build together!

What does my donation support?

Your donation helps create communities where violence is less likely to happen in the first place. Together, we’re investing in prevention by:

  • Equipping advocates and community leaders with training, resources, and support to build effective prevention programs across Washington.
  • Engaging young people through Team Up Washington, helping coaches, educators, and youth leaders foster healthy relationships, respect, and belonging.
  • Creating meaningful learning experiences through In Her Shoes® and In Their Shoes®, interactive programs that build empathy, deepen understanding of relationship violence, and inspire action.
  • Strengthening prevention efforts statewide by connecting organizations, sharing promising practices, and supporting communities working to create lasting change.

Prevention happens every day, in schools, on sports teams, in workplaces, in neighborhoods, and in families. It happens when young people learn what healthy relationships look like, when communities have the tools to interrupt cycles of harm, and when everyone has the opportunity to feel safe, respected, and connected. Your support helps make that work possible.
